MENTAL HEALTH & PSYCHOSOCIAL SUPPORT
Mental Health & Psychosocial Support
Improving psychosocial wellbeing and social inclusion for people living with HIV and communities affected by stigma, trauma, and life stressors.
OVERVIEW
Our Commitment
FAWS recognises that mental health is an essential component of overall health and wellbeing. Our Mental Health and Psychosocial Support programme improves psychosocial wellbeing and promotes social inclusion among vulnerable populations across Nakuru County, addressing the emotional, psychological, and social challenges faced by people living with HIV and communities.
Through community-based interventions, awareness campaigns, and support systems, FAWS creates safe spaces where people can access information, share experiences, build coping skills, and seek appropriate care when needed.
WHAT WE DO
Key Interventions
Support Groups
Community support groups that provide safe, supportive environments for PLHIV/WLHIV to share experiences, learn from one another, and receive emotional support — fostering resilience and connection.
Peer Counselling
Trained peer counsellors who provide psychosocial support, encouragement, and guidance — promoting trust, empathy, and positive coping while linking people to further support.
Mental Health Awareness
Community awareness and education campaigns that challenge stigma and discrimination and encourage early help-seeking through dialogues, outreach, and educational sessions.
Referral Pathways for Specialised Care
Strengthened referral pathways to specialised mental-health services through partnerships with health facilities, ensuring people with complex needs access assessment, treatment, and ongoing care.
OUR IMPACT
Through increased awareness, strengthened support systems, improved access to psychosocial services, and effective referral mechanisms, FAWS contributes to improved mental wellbeing, enhanced resilience, reduced stigma, and greater social inclusion for PLHIV/WLHIV and communities across Nakuru County.
